Weak Spot is a Fur Machine / Echo Garden Studios studio recoding project spanning 9 months. The goal was to create incredibly deep and ethereal modern rock that was, simply put, perfectly recorded. Take one listen. Most agree we achieved what we set out to do. Not always a guarantee with music. But we had a young studio with little bookings and nothing else to do… time was on our side.
This is the first track we completed, titled, Get There. Clocked from a LittlePhatty>MIDIMurf (static in the intro). We built the track from our 3 different drum beats. Joe killed it on the Tele. Every bit of this track uses the $200 Vox ACTV4 tube amp. And the Red Japanese phaser Tele. The second guitar entering in on the riff part is the normal Tele. The phased guitar is the main body especially heard singularly at 1:42. The normal Tele sound comes in at 1:55. Phasing is a great trick to get thick without crushing volume!! This song is a study in basic tracking principles. No, there is no fretless in the recording. And that giant ribbon mic was on the kick drum not the vocals!
An odd tender one and a crazy showcase of Matt’s vocal abilities. We were dead set on the maximazation of both simplicity and stunning folk syrup. You decide…
